Is Chrysler kidding?

I read where Chrysler Group, LLC is reducing lifetime powertrain warranties to 5 years or 100,000 miles. Starting with the 2010 model year, the Jeep Grand Liberty or Dodge Ram that you buy will be less attractive as a keeper than it has been. Okay, we’re consumers and although we always look for something for little or nothing, we don’t necessarily expect it. Five years/100,000 is pretty good when compared to the old days. But they cite market research that indicated that consumers prefer fixed time periods. Boy, that’s a good one! There’s still some swamp land available in Florida for sale too! Would you think that a 5 year warranty is better than a lifetime warranty? I just can’t imagine anyone answering yes to that question. It’s more likely that they asked consumers if they liked a fixed warranty. People generally like to have things spelled out in black and white, especially when it comes to anything auto related. If Chrysler hasn’t spun this, I haven’t a brain cell left!!! What I resent is the fact that they apparently think people are stupid enough to believe this rationale. “Well, you, the buying public, told us that you prefer fixed to lifetime warranties so that’s why we did it.” Maybe this is part of the reason why we, as the taxpayer, had to bail this company out twice!
