Chevy Volt

Looks like we will be seeing the Chevy Volt after all, at least that’s a fairly good bet now that General Motors has emerged from Bankruptcy. Presuming it hits the market on time, what will it’s acceptance be? Boy, that’s a good one! What was supposed to sell for $30,000 now is projected to go for $40,000. The reason we have kept an eye on the Volt is that it seems to be the poster child for the consumer’s break from fossil fuels. It is by no means the only auto in the hopper in this genre but perhaps it is the most convenient icon. At $40K, it may turn out to be the sacrificial lamb of the next generation of autos. Remember, the Beta Max video recorder came out at $2000 plus in 1980 dollars. Prices dropped markedly on video recorders as demand for less expensive technology presented itself. Let’s hope the price of the Chevy Volt doesn’t kill the demand.
