Little GTO

You’re not looking so fine. Today is a very sad day. We are reminded of how our lives are intertwined with our automobiles. Ronnie and the Daytonas 1964 classic, Little GT, has been playing over and over again in my mind. “Three deuces and a four sped and a 389…” The song blaring over WBKW radio made heading out to the beaches of Lake Erie seem just a little like living the California beach scene - and the GTO was prominent in the picture. But no more. Pontiac will be closed – a victim of The Great Recession. GM says it accounts for 10% of its sales. Granted, we all anticipated this but the reality is still hard to take. Nostalgia is one thing however we learned to live without the DeSoto and the Imperial and we will live without the Pontiac. Even in the 60’s, the GTO was pretty much like the Chevelle SS and the Olds 442. GM hopes that Pontiac buyers will become Buick and Chevy buyers. I just hope this thing starts getting better soon because there will be a lot more unemployed workers who matter more than an auto lost to the past. I don’t care what we buy, just buy something!
