Minimum 35 MPG by 2020!

That’s right, that’s what the new guy said about an hour ago. President Obama signed executive policy directives this morning that would direct automakers to establish minimum 35 miles per gallon fuel efficiency by 2020 and also directs the Department of Energy to go ahead with increased fuel efficiency standards for 2011. If you thought that once gas prices dipped below $2.00 per gallon, America would forget as it did 30 years ago, forget it! Hope springs eternal for the Chevy Volt, the Cadillac Converj, the Chevy Spark and a host of new generation autos that will likely be the continuing focus of the auto buying public, at least for the next four years. But what you save in fuel you may well pay in the cost of this new generation. We’ll be buying less OPEC oil but paying for more jobs in Detroit. Then again, if you have to spend it, where would you rather have it go?
