Nissan Motors is bent on leading the parade when it comes to non fossil fueled autos. They recently announced that they are stepping up their timetable on the introduction of a line of EV’s (electric vehicles) that are customer and environmentally friendly. Nissan committed to the producing a small sedan expected to seat 5 passengers that will be powered by a lithium-ion battery pack made by NEC. The pack will lie flat under the floor freeing up passenger and trunk space. They project that the yet unnamed vehicle will travel about 125 miles between charges. Nissan did not suggest selling prices but insisted that it would be significantly less that the Chevy Volt’s expected MSRP of $40,000. Nissan also committed to introducing a full line of electric vehicles by 2012.
Question for President-elect Obama: How soon will the auto “Manhattan Project” begin?
