Don’t you hate those teaser headlines. Well, I guess we can get away with a little blatant homerism seeing that the Olympic spirit is pretty high right now. Bryce G. Hoffman reports in The Detroit News that Ford’s 2009 compact SUVs earned 5 Star ratings from the National Highway Safety Administration, better than the 4 Stars averaged by Toyota’s compact SUVs, the Highlander and Prius hybrids. The Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner regular and hybrid versions, were rated best in class in crash test ratings. “Safety is a top purchase consideration, second only to fuel efficiency, so Escape’s five-star safety ratings and best-in-class highway fuel economy are a winning combination,” said David Finnegan, hybrid electric vehicle marketing manager at Ford. My take: Safety should be the top purchase consideration with fuel efficiency second. Saving lives should outrank saving gas in the mind of the consumer. Next: Survey Results can be tricky
