Green Cars

ConsumerReports.org offers a Green Car Guide on their website. Here’s a few Myth Busters that were based on recent tests with a Toyota Camry and other vehicles. 1. Morning fill-ups – the thought is that cooler gasoline is denser, but the temperature of gas when it comes out of the nozzle changes minimally or not at all and the result is negligible. 2. AC vs open windows – Running the air conditioning at 65 mph resulted in a decrease of about 1 mpg in the Toyota Camry while increased drag caused by open windows at the same speed was not measurable. 3. Dirty Air Filter – modern engines use computers to precisely control the air/fuel ratio so that reduced airflow results in reduced fuel use. The Camry didn’t use any more fuel but accelerated more slowly. Guess there’ll be a lot of debate on these findings!
