Survey Say’s

Survey Says! American auto shoppers are showing more interest in hybrids even though they cost more. J.D. Power and Associates recently released new survey data showing 72% of recent car buyers indicate that they are definitely or probably interested in purchasing a hybrid for their next vehicle as compared with 58% in 2005. However, once they learned that the average cost differential is $5,000, those interested shrunk to 46%. I guess J.D. didn’t factor into his sample those who averaged a B or better in basic math. Indeed, 26% of the initial 72% must have figured out how long it might take at nebulous future gas prices to break even on the $5 grand! You’re going to either pay at the pump or at the dealership (and don’t forget the interest on the extra $5 big ones). Now if we can sell alternative technology vehicles at about the same money as our already sky high cars, then the decision to go hybrid is a no-brainer. Keep your calculators handy.
