No Joking Matter for Automakers March Sales
Apr 1st, 2008 by jsveva
Today is April Fools Day, yet nobody in the auto industry seems to be taking the March 2008 sales number published earlier in the day lightly. In fact, March 2008 was the worst sales month in the past year for Automakers, and there seems to be little optimism that this downward spiral over the past several months can quickly be turned around. Consumers remain concerned about the rising cost of fuel, property taxes, mortgage interest, food, and utilities. At the same time many American’s are also concerned about how the sluggish economy will effect the companies who employ them, and thus any adverse effect it might have on their near term employment stability. With all this pressure on the consumer, we are now seeing a growing number of them putting off decisions to make big ticket purchases until their confidence in the economy is restored. The question now becomes, what will it take to restore their confidence and whether or not the answer can be found in the President’s stimulus plan. Will the stimulus plan actually tip the scales toward its intended goal this time around? I just don’t see it myself, but hopefully I’m in the minority on this one.
