Mazda’s New Acronym - “PRHT”

Now this is cool! Ezra Dyer’s review of the 2008 Mazda MX-5 Miata Grand Touring PRHT (power retractable hard top). It’s a 2 seat convertible sport model with a retractable hardtop roof for about $29,000. Of course, retractable hardtops are not new. They are rare though and don’t come around very often. The MX-5 is a 2-liter in-line 4 (166 horsepower, 140 pound-feet of torque); 6-speed manual transmission that is rated at 21 mpg –city and 28 – road. The Miata has taken its share of ribbing over the years but this one has a few interesting features. Although the engine won’t make you mistake it for a Porshe, it’s plenty quick so that the middle class second childhood guys can afford to enjoy it. But the neatest thing is that the retractable hardtop fits in the same space that a soft convertible roof would fit into…a bit of practicality for those likely to want to buy it. You have to have room for the business suit when you show up at the office driving this baby! I’m not sure how many years I have to go for my second childhood or whether I was too busy and missed it but this isn’t a bad idea if I was going to have one!
