Auto Sales Slide 2.2% in February

Interesting number in this morning’s Retail Sales Report from February. The headline number was -.6% and the core number, that is, ex autos, was -.2%. Autos continued their slide, declining 2.2% in February. But sales at gas stations were down 1.0%. As explained by CNBC’s chief ecomonist, Steve Leisman, other corroborating data give rise to the notion that Americans may curtaining their discretionary driving.
