What are they doing up north? Canadian auto sales surged 14.3% in February, the strongest Feb. on record! Sales were fueled by aggressive incentives and price cuts. Light vehicle sales totaled 110,951 units topping the previous record of 103,200 in 2003. Even GM, Canada’s biggest automaker, was up 14.5% year over year. Chrysler Canada was up 5.7% and that was their 19th straight month of year over year sales grow and Ford was 4.1% higher year over year. “Last year, sales of crossovers grew more quickly than any other segment in the automotive industry, and in that hot market, Ford sold more crossovers than any other manufacturer,” said Barry Engle, president and chief executive of Ford Canada. “We expect the rapid growth in crossovers to continue this year.” Toyota Canada set February sales records in both its Toyota and Lexus divisions and were 26.2 % year over year and Honda was likewise up 50%. Shows just how weak the US Dollar has become, eh?
